Tormenta Tropical Agatha

SITUACION ACTUAL

El Presidente de la República de Guatemala brindó una conferencia de prensa en donde informó sobre las últimas cifras actualizadas de daños originado por el paso de la Tormenta Tropical Agatha, la cifra de personas fallecidas se incrementó a 158 y 61,243 personas damnificadas. Al igual que la cantidad de fallecidos y damnificados, las personas en riesgo se incrementaron a 60,236 personas; 193,113 afectadas; 144,355 evacuados y 86,907 albergados. La cantidad de desaparecidas es de 101 y de heridos 147. Un total de 144 escuelas públicas están funcionando como albergues, 33 como centros de acopio y 12 se encuentran completamente destruidas.

Frente a la necesidad de responder a las incidencias presentadas y con el objetivo de reconstruir y rehabilitar las localidades dañadas por la erupción del volcán de Pacaya y la Tormenta Tropical Agatha, el gobierno presentó sus ejes de trabajo prioritarios, enfocados en Asistencia Humanitaria y Medios de Vida, Reactivación Económica; Desarrollo Rural y Seguridad Alimentaria, Adaptación y Mitigación al Cambio Climático y el Fortalecimiento Institucional.

Acciones de Visión Mundial

El Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia de la Oficina Nacional, presentó un consolidando actualizado de la Evaluación de Daños y Análisis de Emergencias – EDAN – en las áreas de cobertura de los distintos Programas de Desarrollo de Área:

La Dirección Nacional junto al Equipo de Respuesta Rápida, priorizó la entrega de ayuda humanitaria, para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria de las familias que se encuentran actualmente en los albergues comunitarios y las familias más damnificadas que han retornado a sus hogares

La Oficina Nacional instaló un Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia local, con la participación de los Gerentes de los PDA más afectados: Ixim Achí, de Sololá; ASODISA, de Santa Apolonia; Ka Ka Na Oj, de San José Poaquil; y Semillas de Esperanza, de San Martín Jilotepeque, estos tres del departamento de Chimaltenango.

Asimismo, se envió un reporte a todas las oficinas de soporte en el que se les informa del status específico de los niños y niñas registradas en el programa de patrocinio.

La Oficina Nacional continúa las coordinaciones interinstitucionales en la Red Humanitaria, liderada por el Sistema de Naciones Unidas, participando en el clúster de nutrición y el de información nacional.

Agatha Tropical Storm

CURRENT SITUATION

In a press conference, the President of the Republic of Guatemala provided an update on the numbers of the damages caused by Agatha Tropical Storm, the number of dead people increased to 158 and to 61,243 people victims of damages. The number of people in risk increased to 60,236, 193,113 affected people, 144,355 evacuated people, and 86,907 sheltered people. There are 101 missing people and the injured are 147. There are144 pubic schools operating as shelters, 12 are totally destroyed and 33 are storage centres.

Towards the need to give response to these incidents, and with the objective of rebuild and rehabilitate the areas damaged by Pacaya Volcano eruption and the Tropical Storm, Agatha, the Government presented its priority working axes, focused on Humanitarian aid and Means of Livelihood, Economic Reactivation; Rural Development and Food Security, Climate Changes Adaptation and Relief, and Institutional Strengthening.

World Vision Actions

The Emergency Operations Centre in the National Office gathered and presented the Damages Evaluation and Emergencies Analysis from the different Area Development Programmes:

The National Direction and the Rapid Response Team, have given priority to the humanitarian aid delivery, this to grant food security of the families lodged on the community shelters and for those suffering damages that have returned to their houses.

The National Office has established a local Emergency Operations Centre with participation of the Managers from the most affected ADPs: Ixim Achi from the department of Soloa, ASODISA from Santa Apolonia, Ka Ka Na Oj from San Jose Poaquil, and Semillas de Esperanza from San Martin Jilotepeque, these three from the department of Chimaltenango.

It was also sent a report to every Support Office informing the specific status for the children registered on the sponsorship programme.

The National Office continues its inter-institutional coordination on the Humanitarian Network, leaded by the United Nations System, participating on the Nutrition and National Information clusters.
